Grant Guidelines – A Quick Overview
This is a quick overview of the various types of grants to help point you in
the right direction. Make sure to check out the more detailed guidelines before
deciding which type of grant is best for your project.
SPA Grants
- Grant limit $5,000
- Three opportunities per year to submit
- Funded by Peace Corps review
- Community contribution required
PEPFAR VAST Grants
- No limit to grant
- Program supports HIV-awareness community events, training, income-generating
activities for people living with HIV, etc.
- Community-initiated, community-focused (PCV's community must be the primary
beneficiary)
- Community contribution desired: 10%-25%
- Deadline for applications: the 15th of every month
Partnership Grants
- No limit to grant
- Raise money from friends and family and they receive tax deduction
- Posted on the national Peace Corps web site
- Community contribution required
- Less documentation necessary than SPA grant
Democracy Grants
- Grant limit $24,000 (though most grants in the $5,000 to $15,000 range)
- Program supports key projects to foster the development and education of
civil society in Ukraine.
- Grants can only be funded to a Ukrainian registered NGO.
- Applications must be generated by the Ukrainian organization and written
in both English and either Ukrainian or Russian
- PCVs must be submit application to Peace Corps Country Director who decides
whether the Peace Corps will recommend the project. If approved, applications
then go to the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy.
- Contract is signed between U.S. Embassy and NGO. PCVs not responsible for
handling the funds, keeping records and receipts, or generating follow-up
documentation.
